How to assess the quality and performance of lubricants
- 2018-10-11-

Shanghai Zhuoli lubricants quality assessment: through a series of advanced testing methods, according to the oil quality indicators and performance, analysis of the oil's intrinsic quality and physical and chemical properties, to assess the quality of the oil products, can be used in equipment The lubricating oil condition is regularly tracked and monitored, and the tendency of oil degradation and the cause of pollution are found in time, and a reasonable lubrication method and oil change period are established for the equipment.

In today's world, the quality of lubricants has been evaluated. Countries have basically agreed on the same method. The basic system of quality standards consisting of four parts: lubricant physical and chemical indicators, simulation test, bench test and driving test has been established. The quality of lubricating oil is mainly measured by simulation test, lube bench test and driving test. In actual use, because of the high cost, only one or two of the three methods are selected for evaluation.

Physical and chemical indicators are the basis for assessment

Physical and chemical indicators for measuring the basic properties of lubricating oil include: kinematic viscosity, low temperature dynamic viscosity, viscosity index, flash point, pour point, high temperature and high shear viscosity, evaporation loss, sediment, moisture, foam and various element contents, etc. . These physical and chemical indicators are only the basic indicators for measuring lubricants. If the physical and chemical indicators are not qualified, the subsequent simulation tests and bench tests will be even more difficult to talk about. Therefore, the Technical Supervision Bureau only tests physical and chemical indicators in the quality inspection of lubricating oil over the years. Of course, this also involves the limitation of the level of professional instruments and technicians.

Simulation test is the priority evaluation method

In the process of oil product development and development, the physical and chemical indicators of oil alone cannot explain the problem, nor can it reflect whether the mechanical friction pair is easy to use. The simulation test mainly consists of the following parts:

A coke plate test method and a heat pipe test method reflecting the clean dispersion and oxidation resistance of a lubricating oil for a vehicle;

A polymetallic oxidation test method and a film oxidation test method reflecting the oxidation resistance of a vehicle lubricating oil under high temperature;

a spot test method reflecting the ability of a vehicle lubricating oil to disperse sludge;

A test method for the wear of a high-temperature four-ball machine that reflects the anti-wear level of automotive lubricants.

These simulation tests can only simply reflect the working condition of the engine, and can not simulate the engine's influence on the performance of the oil under complicated conditions and working conditions, especially the combustion products. In addition, the simulation test method generally adopts the test conditions of comparative strengthening or induction. . However, the reinforcement will be untrue, because in the whole process of the engine, the comprehensive factors combine to affect the anti-oxidation, purification, dispersion and anti-wear ability of the oil. It is impossible to simulate the single performance evaluation. The method is evaluated as it is, so the various simulation test methods and their evaluation indicators are basically not reflected in the specifications of engine oil lubrication.

Bench test is a standardized specification test and classification basis

In order to truly reflect the use of oil, it is also recognized by the engine manufacturing department, and a bench test to evaluate the performance of the lubricant has been developed. The bench test is to install a representative engine in the laboratory. Or a certain period of time under the control conditions, and according to the performance indicators agreed upon by the engine manufacturer before the test, and after the completion of the bench test, determine whether the testable oil meets the requirements; If the judgment indicators of the oil products are within the limits, it can be considered that the oil products are initially recognized and obtained the certificate of the oil of this type. In principle, the market can be supplied.

Driving test is a visual assessment method

The driving test is a test method that truly reflects the performance of the lubricating oil. The sample is added to several cars with the same condition, running a certain distance in the same road condition, and then taking out the waste oil to test its TBN , TAN , nitrification value, Oxidation value, copper content, iron content and other indicators are compared with various indicators of new oil, and the aging condition is analyzed. At the same time, the relevant parts of the engine are inspected and the wear condition is checked. This method truly reflects the efficacy of lubricating oil in the engine. It is a true and accurate evaluation method for testing the advantages and disadvantages of lubricating oil by Shanghai Zhuoli Lubricant Co., Ltd. However, the cost of driving tests is high and the test content is not likely to be carried out in accordance with standardized procedures.
